Google just recently announced that the offering of a free pass to high-profile developers on the company’s 30 percent app store will come to an end from 2021.
The tech company will implement this policy from September 2021. This new policy would mean that app developers will begin to adopt its payment system.
Google discovered that some app developers were exploiting the company and evading full payment by requesting that users fill in their credit card details in their app instead of Google’s.
This new development will make Google’s Play Store charges similar to Apple App store’s. Some tech giant companies have been complaining lately about how expensive it is to upload their apps on iPads and iPhones.
Fortnite got removed from Google and Apple stores recently. Spotify, the developer of Fortnite announced that there was a new payment system in the game. It further said that collaboration would be done with a non-profit coalition to force Apple to reduce its exorbitant fees.
Until recently, Google had been ignoring this development and insisted that 97 percent of the app developers on its store abide by the regulation of selling digital products.
In a comment made by Google recently, it states that to help those who already have an app on Google Play and would need technical work for the integration of its billing system, it would give them the grace of one year to complete any needed update.
