Facebook started the rollout of its Messenger Rooms group call service to users of the eponymous chat app last week. Now, the company is looking to add it to WhatsApp too.
According to WABetaInfo, the most recent WhatsApp beta gives users the ability to launch a Rooms meet-up without leaving the app.
While the feature’s currently only available in beta and select countries at the moment, there are already signs that it will be added as a permanent feature.
“Rooms” now replaces the camera icon within chats once the attachment icon is clicked on. Additionally, “Rooms” is now also visible in the calls menu tab on WhatsApp.
WhatsApp recently received a video and voice calling refresh by increasing the maximum number of participants to eight. While Messenger Rooms allows up to 50, it’s likely that the WhatsApp call limit won’t be increased much further.
As mentioned earlier, this feature is currently only available in beta, for now, so you probably might not see Messenger Rooms in your WhatsApp for quite some time except if you’re a beta tester.
