Every year, Google presents Google I/O (Input/Output), a demonstration of the company’s newest software developments. The primary goal is for developers to become familiar with any Android smartphone operating system modifications or the Wear wristwatch operating system.
Previous iterations of the event have included hardware debuts as well.
When is it?
Google’s annual developer conference is just a few weeks away, on May 11-12. Google debuted Android 12, Project Starline, a new video-chat technology, and significant upgrades to Wear OS at I/O last year. We keep our eyes peeled for any new technology Google may unveil during this year’s event.
The forthcoming Google Pixel phones, a potential Pixel Watch, Android 13, and Google’s supposed follow-up to its Android 12 operating system are all rumored. Even though it’s just speculation, it’s safe to assume Google will make some announcements at I/O 2022.
What do we expect Google to Announce?
- Android 13
Google will likely show off Android 13, the next version of the Android smartphone operating system. The next Android OS will still be in beta testing when I/O begins, but we’ll undoubtedly discover some critical features at the conference.
For example, several new features and settings and changes to Android 12’s Material You design framework have already been revealed on the Android Developers Blog.
- Pixel 6A
Google announced the Pixel 3A, the first cheap “A” version of its Pixel phone, three years ago during I/O 2019. However, due to pandemic-relayed delays, Google moved the Pixel 4A and 5A releases from May to August for the following two years.
Google is rumored to be resuming its previous “A” release schedule for 2022, with 6A making its premiere at Google I/O this year.
- Pixel Watch
Even though Google already owns Fitbit and collaborates with Samsung to develop wear OS, the speculated Pixel Watch might be the company’s first foray into the smartwatch market.
A probable Wear OS UI, a simple design, health-tracking functions, and three different variants are all rumored for the Pixel Watch.
- Google’s Pixel Fold and Android 12L
These two foldable phones are currently under development. This year’s I/O could provide more than just Android 13. Google has teased Android 12L, a tablet and foldable phone-optimized version of Android 12 9like Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold3).
In that vein, Google is anticipated to release its foldable device later this year (a Pixel Fold?)
- Google Stadia
It’s probable that Stadia, Google’s cloud gaming platform, may appear in some capacity. According to rumors, Google will make Stadia’s streaming technology available to other businesses.
How to Watch Google I/O 2022
In Mountain View, California, the Shoreline Amphitheater is hosting Google I/O 2022. Those who register here will be able to attend in person, but the entire event will be aired live via the Google I/O website.
So if you miss the live stream, don’t fret; Google will record and upload coverage of the conference for later viewing.
