Google LLC recently announced three new certificate programs to the public. These programs which are data analytics, project management, and user experience are completely executed online.
It is interesting to note that the certificates are independent of a degree from a college, and can be completed within a timeframe of three to six months.
Coursera, the online learning platform is the channel for this program, with Google employees being in charge of the creation and lectures.
Google claims that these certificates will be equal to a four-year college degree for similar roles at the company.
Lisa Gevelber, Google’s Vice President stated that although the Coursera platform’s current pricing is $49 monthly, the new step is not one directed at profit-making.
She further stated that the company wants to make sure that the opportunity is given to anyone who wants to have it.
As a way of giving back to society, Google has decided to fund 100,000 need-based scholarships for individuals who enroll for any of the certificate programs.
$10 million in grants will also be awarded to three NGOs in partnership with Google, which are NPower, JFF, and YWCA to facilitate workforce development for women, underprivileged Americans, and war veterans.
Data analytics, project management, and user experience are awesome fields that can lead to high growth and high paying careers, hence, Google’s decision to offer them to the public.
